The appearance of a bedlington terrier resembles a lamb. It is a lively and playful dog well suited for a family. Its way of behaviour is very different from other terriers as it is more quiet and calm. The Bedlington terrier is available in three different colours: blue, liver, and sand.

Character and behaviour
The Bedlington terrier is a gentle family dog that loves to spend time with its owners. It is good with children and in most cases also friendly towards strangers. It is an active dog that is really fast. It should only be let off the leash in fenced in areas. It is important to teach it to come when called as a puppy.

The Bedlington terrier requires a lot of exercise and training daily. However, it is possible to have a bedlington in an apartment. In such cases, it is important to walk the dog sufficiently. Besides, be aware that this breed enjoys digging holes outside. Adaptation to cats and other pets must take place early on. The bedlington thrives perfectly with other dogs as long as they do not try to dominate the Bedlington terrier.

History of the breed
The Bedlington terrier derives form Northumberland in England. It was named after the mining town Bedlington where the miners used it for hunting foxes, hares, and badgers. In addition, they were used to catch vermin in the mines.

It is thought that the Bedlington terrier was developed on the basis of the otter hound and the Dandie Dinmont terrier. Additionally, the greyhound has also been part of the cross given that the shape of the body is similar to a greyhound’s. This also explains the speed the Bedlington terrier possesses.

Appearance, grooming and health
The Bedlington terrier’s characteristic head shape and curly coat makes the dog look like a little lamb. The back is arched and the legs are long. The ears are long, set low, and hanging down. The tail is set low and is very long and pointy. The Bedlington terrier is available in three different colours: blue, liver, and sand.

The Bedlington terrier is 17 inches and weighs 18-23 pounds.

The coat has two layers and should be cut several times a year. Besides, it needs regular brushing. The Bedlington terrier may suffer from hereditary liver disease. In addition, it can be inclined to suffer from kidney disease or eye problems. The Bedlington terrier can be 17 years old or older.
